OCTOBER 2017– PERSEVERANCE– SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLE 10
Step 10 tells us to continue to take personal inventory and when we are wrong promptly admit it.
Continue is the operative word in Step 10. But, if I am to be honest, continuing is not my strength. i love to start new things. I thrive on novelty. I buy all of the tools, books and resources for a new project or to learn a new skill. I feel exhilarated by the possibilities. But somewhere along the way. . .
In July, Intergroup hosted an exciting brainstorming session with OA Members from around Northern Virginia. As a result of those lively conversations Intergroup has been charged with focusing our activities in two areas of outreach: 1) exploring the use of advertising to attract newcomers and those who are in relapse, and 2) reaching out to medical professionals and facilities who may not know much or anything about how OA works. In addition. . .
First things, first. I planned and prepared my food for the day, which I have done daily for the past 36 years in program. I will do what I did yesterday to stay abstinent today. This morning, I took my quiet time to read For Today and Voices of Recovery. I prayed and took time for a short meditation including breathing and relaxation. I responded via email to a sponsee who is answering the questions in the For Today Workbook. Another sponsee and I are . . .
I recently had a spiritual aha moment: Many of us learned that a proper noun is not just a person, place, or thing, but a specific person, place, or thing, usually beginning with a capital letter. If I’m talking about a proper noun in a meeting, I’m probably referring to an outside issue (and possibly breaking the spirit of anonymity).
In The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous, the chapter on Tradition Ten explains . . .
Region 7 consists of Overeaters Anonymous meetings and Intergroups from the following geographical locations: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC and West Virginia.
Region 7 is one of the ten regions organized to serve communication between groups and Intergroups within and between each region and OA worldwide.
